Online Book Selling: It’s good? Or Bad?

Selling anywhere whether it’s online or offline it’s always a business, a trade activity aimed at maximizing profit, practically speaking it ultimate objective has nothing to do with the book lovers or to inculcate reading habits in them. But it never means that online bookstores have done no good for the reading community.
Firstly because as their profit is linked with the reading habits of the people, more the people read more will they buy books online and thus the online bookstores always work to ensure that people read and buy books online.
Its basically the byproduct or rather, for online bookstores—the act of popularizing reading habits—is a ladder for their success—it is this habits that make people buy books online.
Moreover, what I have felt that the increasing trend of buying books online is playing more important role in inculcating reading habits. Yes, that’s true, the biggest achievement of the online bookstores, I think is in bringing the dormant readers on board and making them buy books online, though they do so for their own profits through their marketing campaigns, but when readers buy books online it’s results are not only restricted to them but to the entire reading community.
Now, the question is why online bookstores and not the offline, it would be wrong to say that offline bookstores don’t make people read books but the online bookstores have several advantages over the offline ones when it comes to buy books online.
Firstly, they consume less time, time and busy lifestyle are one of the major deterrents to the reading habits of the people, but much before reading, how will one read if he does not buy books, and with online bookstores, one can buy books online with just a click the mouse.
Secondly, browsing through the millions of titles is also as convenient as buying books online. Unlike, offline bookstores where one needs to go through rakes and cupboards to find out the physical copy of a book, one can browse thousands of books within minutes at online bookstores and make informed decision before you buy books online.
At last, like I said in my last article, for book lovers it doesn’t make much difference. Won’t you cross a river for your favorite book? I know you can!
Lots of love
Go buy books online and happy reading!
